Cloves (Eugenia Caryophyllus) are the aromatic dried flower buds of a tree in the family Myrtaceae and impart a strongly aromatic fragrance along with a fiery taste. Cloves are used in a variety of food preparations as well as in Ayurvedic / Chinese medicine, and dentistry where the essential oil (extracted from the leaf) is used as a painkiller for dental emergencies.

Black Pepper (Piper Nigrum) is produced from the still-green unripe berries of the Pepper plant through a brief process of cooking and drying. Sri Lankan Black Pepper has a very high Piperine content (the alkaloid responsible for the pungency of Black Pepper), and is widely used as a “hot” cooking spice and seasoning.

Cinnamon is the dried scraped peel of the inner bark of an evergreen tree (Cinnamomum Zeylanicum) that is indigenous to Sri Lanka. Cinnamon is mainly sold in the form of Quills - several peels joined together by overlaps, the hollow of which has been filled with small pieces of the same peel.
